Chudleigh must have just about the best location in the country , theres so much to do and
so many places to visit and its all so close , on this page i am giving you just a few ideas of
places you could visit this year.
When you are in Chudleigh you simply don't need to spend a fortune visiting pay to enter
attractions (although we have a few of those ) below i have listed just a few ideas , you can
pick up a book at Chudleigh news that will give you some great ideas for both walks around
Chudleigh or  just jump in the car and within 30 minutes you can be shopping in Exeter or
Plymouth , walking on Dartmoor , Sitting on the docks at Teignmouth or taking in the
atmosphere of Torquay Harbourside .......Cornwall is reachable in just over an hour and you
can be riding the waves on Summerleaze beach in Bude .If you are fond of bike riding you
can be in Exeter in 15 minutes and cycle all the way to Powderham Castle without ever
seeing a car or simply go up to Haldon forest and ride the super new trails ..Its your choice
...Enjoy .
The Avon Dam - South Brent

Head south from chudleigh down the A38 and follow the
signs for South Brent , at the island follow Avon Dam
- About 20 minutes journey time from Chudleigh.
Some of our best days out have been spent here , there is
a walk of about 500 yards from the car park to the nearest
comfy sitting area , here you can sit by the side of the
running river and watch the enthusiast hike up to the dam.
If you wish you can set up your BBQ and fry the sausages
in the open air.
Dogs are welcome and its a lovely little suntrap and the
kids will love it , nice safe water and you should be able
to keep a close eye on them .I am a bit short of pictures
but have posted a couple to give you an idea of what it is
like.if you are feeling fit you can walk to the dam in
around 30 minutes - its a majestic sight!

Spitchwick - Dartmoor
Head south to Ashburton , turn off for the River Dart Country
Park, keep going over the dart bridge , past the large moors
car park as you head up the hill turn right (not signposted )
Fantastic expanse of open area right by the side of the river ,
suitable for large parties but get there early because parking
is limited, i suggest arrival before 10.30. Theres a river run
for inflatable's right thru the rapids into the lagoon ,for the
maniacs there are people who jump from the rocks into the
pools below , its 35 feet and not recommended.
Theres plenty of room for cricket or football and dogs are
welcome

We love Chudleigh, we live in Colchester, Essex and have come to
Chudleigh for our summer holiday for the last 3 years.  We have 2
children age 7 and 9 and they love the out door swimming pool, they
chose chudleigh pool, when we gave them the choice of newton abbott or
chudleigh. Cornish butchers is great and the bakers  is even better, the
ladies  there are so friendly, and the rolls  and cakes, superb. We
always have a look in Bracken Gallery, last year we bought a lovely
picture of Hay Tor. Anything we need while in Chudleigh we always use
the local shops, including the fish and chip shop, the chinese take away
and of course the co-op, (but the bakers always takes priority over the
co-op).   Harveys is always very welcoming, we love the variety of foods
and jars of lovely things on offer, with happy people to serve us. The
hardware shop also proved useful this year, yet again with friendly
staff happy to serve us. We have also abseiled at The Rock Centre and
had many exciting times there with very supportive and friendly people.
What more can I say, we just love Chudleigh and its lovely people.
Best Regards, Paula.

Emails :-
Hi Chris ,
Thank you for the great service on Saturday .We are
back in Birmingham now and missing Chudleigh already
. Comments on the town - Lovely atmosphere as always
, such great people running the local shops - nothing is
too much trouble for them . Such a great place to stay
with so many things to do and all within easy reach . We
enjoyed our afternoon at the Rock , the kids thought it
was great so thanks for the suggestion.
Negative points - your parking attendants are quite
aggressive , they were checking my car before i had
even left it! We were a little disturbed by the drinkers
outside the ship pub but even though they looked a little
rowdy they were very friendly.
All in all a great holiday , see you next year!!"

Chudleigh dial a car - Taxi service for Chudleigh
Ever since I first visited Chudleigh some 10 years ago, I have found the
people unfailingly friendly and the town unspoiled and interesting.  The
parish church is well worth a visit  with a lovely 15th century rood
screen.  Quite my favourite place!

Hi chris ,
well we nearly tried all the days out on your 'things to do page' , had a super
holiday in Chudleigh as always , everyone made us so so welcome .
Favourite day out was spitchwick (thanks for the tip) , we have been
coming to devon for many years but that was our first time there - everyone
loved it especially the kids who had a great time surfing the rapids !
Thanks to all the shopkeepers who served us so well and to yourself for
the very reasonable and reliable service out to Trusham and Newton abbot.
All the best
Andy and Maria
On the road to Manaton , just
before becky Falls , park on the
right and follow the footpath on a
circular walk of around 4 miles
Stover Park , nice circular walk around the
lake , a little short on facilities but ideal for
walking the dog or exploring with small
children
               Stover Park
The Hidden quarry at Haytor - its there you just have to look for it !!!!
Dartmoor January 2010 - best spot for sledging is about 1.5 miles past Haytor , parking is a little
limited but you have a straight 400 mtr run with no rocks - great fun for all ages !
